COURSE CURRICULUM

The psychology degree requires a minimum of 36 credits, with at least 24 upper-division credits, and includes a variety of foundational courses such as General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Research Design and Statistics I and II, and Physiological Psychology. Students must also select courses from categories like development, personality, social, cultural, learning, cognition, or sensation and perception, along with a practicum or clinical experience course. Additionally, one elective course is required. Beyond these core requirements, students have the option to specialize in one of several emphasis areas tailored to different career paths and interests.The Family and Child Development emphasis involves at least eight courses focused on developmental psychology, family relationships, child psychopathology, and related subjects across disciplines such as communication, sociology, criminal justice, and education. The Law and Criminal Behavior emphasis requires six or more courses related to criminal psychology, victimization, juvenile delinquency, forensic investigations, and legal processes, drawing from both psychology and criminal justice departments.The Business/Organizational emphasis covers business communication, psychological assessment, and organizational behavior, including courses in business ethics, leadership, human resources, and industrial/organizational psychology. The Clinical & Behavioral emphasis includes courses on personality theories, psychological assessment, counseling, and psychotherapy, combined with multicultural, social, and gender-related topics, among others.The Psychobiology emphasis focuses on biological foundations of behavior, requiring biology and chemistry courses alongside psychology courses in sensation, perception, and cognition. The Health & Wellness emphasis integrates psychology with anatomy, physiology, exercise science, and nutrition, emphasizing health psychology and related subjects.Finally, the Sports Psychology emphasis blends developmental, health, and sport-specific psychology courses with exercise physiology and sport-related topics, preparing students for careers in sports, fitness, or health industries. Labs accompany many courses in biological and exercise sciences but do not count as separate credits. This diverse curriculum offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to psychology tailored to varied career goals and interests.
