COURSE CURRICULUM

The museum studies major requires a minimum of 70 credits, with at least 35 credits at the upper-division level. Core courses provide a strong foundation in history, art, education, psychology, and environmental science. Students take broad surveys such as World Civilization to 1500 and Since 1500, U.S. History courses, and specialized classes like Women in Global History and History and Historians as a capstone. Art history courses and design fundamentals are also integral parts of the program.Students gain practical experience through internships, completing two separate internships totaling four credits. Supporting courses in psychology, environmental science, and educational theories enrich understanding of human behavior and learning. The curriculum includes business-related courses, allowing students to choose between Principles of Marketing or Behavior in Organizations, and communication courses focused on professional or managerial communication.Upper-division electives emphasize advanced study in history and art history, with students required to complete at least 12 credits of electives in these areas. Additionally, a math course, such as Finite Math or higher, is required to strengthen analytical skills. Overall, the program combines interdisciplinary knowledge, practical experience, and specialized study to prepare students for various roles in museum management, curation, education, and related fields.
