COURSE CURRICULUM

The economics degree program requires a minimum of 40 credits, including at least 20 upper-division credits. It is designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical analytical skills that are applicable across various business and policy-related careers. Core requirements include foundational courses such as Applied Calculus (MATH 245) and Statistical Methods (ECON 311), along with key economic theory courses like Intermediate Macro-Economics (ECON 406), Intermediate Micro-Economics (ECON 411), and Econometrics (ECON 450). The program culminates in a research-focused capstone course (ECON 470), which allows students to apply the quantitative and theoretical tools they've learned to a real-world economic issue.Students must also choose between two introductory economic sequences: either a single General Economics course (ECON 203) or the two-part sequence of Introduction to Micro-Economics (ECON 200) and Introduction to Macro-Economics (ECON 201). This flexibility allows students to tailor the foundation of their economics education based on prior experience or academic goals.Beyond the core, students select three electives from a diverse list of upper-division courses that explore various fields within economics. These include Labor Economics, Money and Banking, Environmental Economics, International Economics, Economic Development, and more. Some courses, such as Economic Entrepreneurship and Advanced Statistics, allow students to integrate knowledge from related disciplines like business and data analysis.
