COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry program requires a minimum of 32 credits in chemistry courses, including at least 20 upper-division credits, along with 12 to 14 supporting credits, totaling 44 to 46 credits for graduation. Core courses include foundational classes such as General Chemistry I and II (CHEM 151 and CHEM 152) with their respective labs, which are prerequisites for all upper-division chemistry courses. Students progress through more advanced topics like Quantitative Analysis (CHEM 305) with lab, Organic Chemistry I and II (CHEM 331 and CHEM 332) with corresponding labs, and conclude with a Capstone Seminar (CHEM 485) that synthesizes their learning.In addition to core chemistry courses, students must complete six credits of chemistry electives, with at least four credits being upper-division, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. Supporting coursework includes Calculus I (MATH 251) and a choice between two physics sequences: General Physics I and II with labs, or Physics for Scientists and Engineers I and II with labs, ensuring a solid foundation in mathematics and physics relevant to chemistry. Calculus II (MATH 252) is recommended to further enhance mathematical skills.Overall, this program balances rigorous coursework with flexibility through elective choices, preparing students for careers in chemistry, research, or further study in graduate or professional schools.
