COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Health Informatics requires 36 semester credit hours, comprising 12 courses, each worth three credits, including a capstone project. The program is designed to equip students with the technical, analytical, and leadership skills necessary to excel in health informatics and public health settings. Core courses provide a strong foundation in management, leadership, and health systems, beginning with Analytical Tools for Management Decisions, Health Systems, Law and Policy, and Leadership and Management in Health Organizations. Students then build expertise in informatics with courses such as Introduction to Health Informatics, Healthcare Information Systems, and Electronic Health Records, while developing programming and analytics skills through Programming for Analytics, Business Analytics I: Predictive Analytics, and Business Analytics II: Prescriptive Analytics. Elective courses allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals, with options including Databases and Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, Machine Learning, Analytics for Big Data, and Data Visualization. The program culminates in the Health Informatics Capstone, enabling students to apply knowledge and skills to a real-world project. To successfully complete the degree, students must earn a grade of “B” or higher in each course, ensuring mastery of both theoretical and applied competencies essential for careers in public health agencies, healthcare organizations, and research institutions focused on leveraging data and technology to improve health outcomes.
