COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 4-Year Track at Bellarmine University is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for professional nursing practice through a rigorous, evidence-based curriculum that integrates science, humanities, and clinical experience. In the first year, students build a foundational knowledge base with courses in human anatomy and physiology, introductory psychology, writing, and history, while also participating in the Knight Life first-year experience. The second semester adds nutrition, lifespan development, statistics, and the continuation of anatomy and physiology. In the second year, students complete courses in health sciences chemistry, philosophy, fine and performing arts, theology, and literature. They also take pathophysiology, microbiology, and an introduction to nursing, which can be waived with prior Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) experience and substituted with an elective to meet the 120-credit requirement. The third year transitions into core nursing coursework including health assessment, nursing concepts, applied pharmacology, psychiatric and mental health nursing, complex adult care, and population health, emphasizing health promotion and care for underserved communities. Professional development is woven throughout with courses focused on evidence-based practice, inclusivity, and policy. In the final year, students engage in advanced coursework in pediatric and maternal health, complex adult care, and professional leadership, while completing the Merici Community Engaged Seminar. The final semester includes a special topics course, leadership and management in nursing, a practice immersion capstone, and a comprehensive review of nursing to prepare for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam. Throughout the program, students benefit from clinical placements, hands-on labs, and a strong emphasis on ethics, cultural competence, and holistic care, ensuring they graduate ready to provide compassionate, skilled, and knowledgeable care across diverse healthcare settings.
