COURSE CURRICULUM

Wellness Studies majors are required to complete a series of liberal arts core courses, including mathematics such as MA 115 Applications of College Mathematics or MA 120 College Algebra, natural sciences with lab like BI 111 General Biology: Cells & Genes or BI 112 General Biology: Ecology & Evolution, philosophy through PL 255 Ethics, and social science with PY 101 General Psychology. Students also fulfill the 6-credit hour Global Studies or Community Engagement requirement through courses such as NU 484 Population-Based Health Concepts and NU 481 Practicum II. The major requires 66 to 68 credit hours, including prerequisite courses like BI 152 General Microbiology, BI 220 Human Anatomy & Physiology, CH 131 Principles of Chemistry or CH 135 General Chemistry I, PY 208 Lifespan Development, and statistics courses such as EC 240 Statistical Analysis, MA 155 Elementary Probability & Statistics, or SO 230 Social Statistics, along with a choice between SO 101 Introduction to Sociology or SW 205 Social Problems/Social Change. Nursing-specific courses build foundational knowledge and skills, including NU 111 Nutrition, NU 425 Foundations of Health & Illness Concepts I, NU 450 Development of the Professional Nurse, NU 452 Nursing Pharmacology, NU 453 Health Assessment, NU 458 Practicum I, NU 459 Health & Illness Concepts II, NU 466 Gerontological Nursing, NU 470 Leadership and Management, NU 471 Women & Children Health & Illness Concepts, NU 473 Psychosocial Nursing Concepts, NU 476 Foundations of Evidence-Based Nursing Care, NU 482 Health & Illness Concepts III, NU 485 High Acuity Nursing Concepts, and NU 488 Practicum III, with electives completing the minimum 120 credit hours. Technology competency is demonstrated through successful completion of NU 450, NU 428, NU 458, NU 481, and NU 488 with a grade of “C” or better.
