COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Physical Education is a 132-credit hour program designed to prepare students to become exceptional K-12 physical education teachers by combining rigorous academic coursework with hands-on field experiences. The program requires students to complete a core curriculum of 38–51 credit hours, including general education courses in social science, such as General Psychology, and natural science with lab options like General Biology or Principles of Human Biology. Candidates also fulfill the six-hour Global Studies or Community Engagement core designation through the ED 495 Final Clinical Experience. The program includes 43 credit hours of education requirements, covering courses such as Practicum, Creative Activities and Physical Movement, Developmental and Educational Psychology, Psychology of the Exceptional Child, Tests and Measurements, Teaching Physical Education, Adaptive Physical Education, General Methods and Differentiated Learning, Technology in Education, Advanced Special Methods, and Managing the Learning Environment, culminating in the Final Clinical Experience Seminar and Education Capstone. Additionally, the program includes 41 credit hours focused on physical education teacher certification requirements, including Kinesiology, Lifetime Fitness, Athletic Training, Exercise Testing and Programming, Functional Anatomy, Biomechanics, Motor Behavior, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology, Stress Physiology, Nutrition, and performance-based dance courses. Computer competency is demonstrated through completion of ED 320. This integrated program ensures that graduates possess the knowledge, pedagogical skills, and professional dispositions to effectively teach physical education and promote lifelong health and fitness in diverse student populations.
