COURSE CURRICULUM

Kinesiology majors must complete a comprehensive curriculum designed to integrate liberal arts, math, science, and professional kinesiology knowledge, totaling 120 credit hours. Core liberal arts courses include mathematics (MA 120 or higher), natural science with lab (BI 105, BI 111, or BI 112), philosophy (PL 255 Ethics), and social science (PY 101 General Psychology), while composition requirements are met through EN 112 or an advanced writing course. Foundational kinesiology courses cover critical areas such as KN 101 Introduction to Kinesiology, KN 216 Functional Anatomy and Physiology, KN 310 Applied Sports Medicine, KN 319 Biomechanics & Motor Control, KN 376 Motor Behavior, KN 381 Exercise Physiology, KN 393 Sports Psychology, and KN 420 Stress Physiology, complemented by science and math prerequisites in chemistry, physics, and statistics. Students choose one capstone option, KN 472 Strength & Conditioning Field Experience or KN 499 Research Seminar, to demonstrate mastery of applied skills. Kinesiology majors also select a concentration to tailor their expertise: General Kinesiology emphasizes health, wellness, and fitness training; Strength and Conditioning prepares students for sport performance and professional certification; and Rehabilitation Science readies students for graduate programs in athletic training, occupational therapy, or physical therapy. Electives and technology integration through KN 472 or KN 499 ensure students develop both breadth and practical competency for careers in fitness, health, wellness, coaching, and rehabilitation.
