COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Educational Studies at Avila University requires students to complete a comprehensive core curriculum of 38 to 51 credit hours, providing a broad foundation in liberal arts and essential skills. The Educational Studies major itself consists of 48 credit hours, including foundational courses such as ED 185 Practicum, ED 206 Creative Activities & Physical Movement, ED 229 Developmental & Educational Psychology, ED 235 Psychology of the Exceptional Child, ED 245 Tests & Measurements, ED 387 Multicultural Foundations of Education, and ED 498 Options in Modern Education. In addition, students complete GG 101 World Geography and PS 120 American National Government to strengthen their understanding of global and civic contexts relevant to education. Beyond these required courses, students must complete an additional 21 hours of education coursework, with at least 12 of these hours at the upper-division level, allowing for focused study in areas aligned with personal interests and career goals. This structure provides flexibility while ensuring that students gain a solid grounding in educational theory, research, and practical applications. The program is designed for those not seeking teacher certification, yet it prepares graduates for diverse roles in education, including administration, curriculum design, policy, training, and other professional educational settings, emphasizing critical thinking, applied knowledge, and the ethical and societal dimensions of education.
