COURSE CURRICULUM

Avila University’s Biology degree offers three distinct tracks—General Biology, Ecology and Environmental Science, and Pre-Veterinary—each designed to support a range of career interests and academic goals. The General Biology track provides flexibility, allowing students to choose foundational science courses such as organic chemistry, physics, or statistics, and tailor their studies with 16 credit hours of biology electives, at least nine of which must be at the 300-level. Options include microbiology, immunology, molecular cell biology, ecology, and animal behavior, providing a well-rounded biological education.The Ecology and Environmental Science track focuses on the interaction between organisms and their environments. It includes foundational courses like Humans & the Environment and statistics, and offers electives such as evolution, plant form and function, conservation biology, and analytical chemistry. This track prepares students for careers in conservation, ecological research, or environmental consulting.The Pre-Veterinary track is structured to meet the prerequisites for veterinary school. Required courses include microbiology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, composition, and two semesters of general physics. Students then choose from advanced topics such as anatomy and physiology, molecular biology, animal behavior, and evolution, with at least six credits at the 300 level. This track equips students with the scientific knowledge and lab experience needed for veterinary school admission and future success in animal health professions.
