COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre with a Directing/Producing concentration at Avila University combines the general B.F.A. requirements with specialized coursework to prepare students for careers in theatre leadership and production. Students complete the Core Curriculum (38–51 credit hours) and 20 credit hours of foundational B.F.A. courses, including TR 223 History and Literature of the Theatre I, TR 225 Stage Combat, TR 251 Stagecraft, TR 253 Stage Lighting, TR 271 Acting I, TR 272 Acting II, TR 281 Script Analysis/Directing Principles, TR 377 Business of Theatre, TR 425 Dramatic Theory & Criticism, and TR 499 Senior Project. The Directing/Producing concentration requires 30–33 credit hours emphasizing practical and leadership skills in theatre, including TR 255 Costume Techniques/Design, TR 284 Theatre Management Practicum, TR 288 Stage Management Practicum, TR 289 Directing Practicum, TR 324 History & Literature of the Theatre II, TR 391 Acting III – Character Development, TR 361 Stage Management, TR 415 Playwright Seminar, TR 451 Computer Aided Design, TR 463 Advanced Directing, TR 471 Shakespeare in Performance, TR 473 Acting Styles, and TR 495 Internship. This curriculum ensures students gain hands-on experience in directing, stage management, production design, and administrative aspects of theatre, combining creative artistry with professional leadership skills within a liberal arts context.
