COURSE CURRICULUM

The Theatre Design & Technology concentration within the B.F.A. in Theatre at Avila University offers a comprehensive 48-credit program that equips students with practical and theoretical expertise in all technical aspects of theatre production. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on skill development in stagecraft, lighting, sound, and costume design while grounding students in the historical and conceptual foundations of theatre. Core courses include TR 227 Stage Make-up, TR 229 Scenic Art for the Stage, TR 255 Costume Techniques/Design, TR 257 Sound Engineering & Design, and TR 361 Stage Management, providing essential technical training. Students deepen their design knowledge through TR 451 Computer Aided Design, TR 452 Period Styles in Scenic Design, TR 453 Advanced Stagecraft, TR 454 Advanced Lighting & Sound Design, and TR 455 History of Costume, fostering mastery in both creative and production-focused roles. Historical and analytical perspectives are integrated through TR 324 History & Literature of the Theatre II and TR 415 Playwright Seminar, ensuring students understand the artistic context of their craft. Additionally, practical experience is gained via four credit hours of technical practicums, including TR 286 Technical Theatre Practicum, TR 287 Costume Practicum, or TR 288 Stage Management Practicum, allowing students to apply their skills in real-world settings.
