COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree requires 120 credit hours, including 38–51 hours of core curriculum and 49 hours of major coursework. Students must complete liberal arts core courses in mathematics (MA 117 or MA 120), natural science with lab (BI 105, BI 111, BI 112, or BI 115), and social science (SO 101). The program also fulfills the Global Studies or Community Engagement requirement through SW 495 Field Experience I and SW 496 Field Experience II. To graduate, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and earn at least a “C” in all social work courses. The major curriculum emphasizes generalist social work practice and includes EC 202 or EC 203 (Economics), PS 120 or PS 220 (Political Science), PY 101 (Psychology), SW 205 or SW 230, and core courses such as SW 303, SW 350, SW 351, SW 352, SW 397, SW 462, SW 463, SW 465, SW 497, and SW 498. Students also complete six credits from special interest areas and a minimum of 27 elective hours to reach 120 total credits. Through this combination of coursework, research, and field experience, students gain practical and theoretical skills for professional social work practice in diverse human service settings.
