COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology requires 120 credit hours, including core liberal arts courses and specialized psychology coursework. All psychology majors must complete MA 155 Elementary Probability & Statistics, PY 101 General Psychology, and a series of core psychology courses totaling 27–30 credit hours. These include EN 112 Composition II, PY 102 Orientation Seminar, PY 208 Lifespan Development, PY 216 Social Psychology, PY 224 Psychology of Communication, PY 261 and PY 262 Psychological Research I and II, PY 371 Cognitive Psychology, PY 425 Senior Seminar, and one upper-division psychology elective. Students then choose one concentration—General Psychology, Mental Health, or Research. The General Psychology concentration (15 credits) includes PY 485 Psychology Practicum and 12 elective credits, at least 6 at the 300 level or higher. The Mental Health concentration (15 credits) includes IS 350 Behavior & the Brain, PY 201 Personality Psychology, PY 210 Psychopathology, PY 485 Psychology Practicum, and one elective such as PY 332 Health Psychology or PY 383 Psychology of Substance Use and Disorders. The Research concentration (11 credits) requires IS 350, research experiences (PY 297 or PY 497), and two semesters of PY 498 Senior Thesis. Students may combine Mental Health and Research concentrations with at least 8 unique credit hours.
