COURSE CURRICULUM

The Natural Science concentration within the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts Studies offers a comprehensive 15-26 credit hour program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the biological, chemical, physical, and earth sciences. Core courses include General Biology: Cells & Genes, General Biology: Ecology & Evolution, and General Chemistry I, which establish essential knowledge in life and chemical sciences. Students then select at least one additional course from advanced biology and chemistry options, such as Humans & the Environment, General Microbiology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, or Organic Chemistry, and one course from physical sciences, including Physical Geology, Descriptive Meteorology, or General Physics, ensuring exposure to diverse scientific disciplines. To further develop expertise, students choose at least three upper-division courses such as Evolution, Genetics, Immunology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or Analytical Chemistry, which focus on scientific inquiry, data analysis, laboratory techniques, and critical thinking. This concentration emphasizes scientific communication and problem-solving, preparing graduates for careers in entry-level laboratory research, scientific writing, technology, and interdisciplinary graduate programs. By combining foundational courses with advanced electives, the program equips students with versatile skills in research, analysis, and scientific reasoning, fostering the ability to apply knowledge across professional and academic scientific contexts while cultivating a lifelong understanding of the natural world.
