COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Auburn University at Montgomery provides students with a strong foundation in mathematical theory, applied techniques, and data analysis, preparing them for careers in education, industry, research, and technology. The program requires completion of 120 credit hours and offers three concentrations: Traditional Mathematics, Data Science, and Statistics. The Traditional Mathematics concentration emphasizes classical topics such as Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Modern Algebra, Number Theory, Topology, and Complex Variables, equipping students with the analytical and theoretical skills necessary for graduate studies or research-based careers. The Data Science concentration focuses on computational mathematics, machine learning, data visualization, and statistical programming through courses such as Introduction to Data Science, Data Wrangling & Visualization, Statistics with R, and Machine Learning, preparing graduates for careers in data analytics, finance, and technology-driven industries. The Statistics concentration covers probability, inferential and applied statistics, multivariate methods, and time series analysis, providing a foundation for roles in analytics, research, and decision-making.Students interested in teaching mathematics can pursue the Mathematics Education (MHSE) option, a joint program with the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology. This option combines rigorous mathematical coursework with pedagogy and professional practice, including internships and field-based experiences, preparing graduates to teach grades 6 through 12 and earn an Alabama teaching certificate. Core courses for education students include Mathematics for Elementary Education I and II, Biostatistics, Applied Linear Algebra, and Senior Seminar in Math. Both programs integrate applied experiences, research opportunities, and independent study options to enhance problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Academic advising is provided jointly by the mathematics and education departments to ensure students meet all degree, professional education, and certification requirements. Upon completion, graduates are well-prepared to pursue diverse careers, advanced study, or teaching roles, combining strong mathematical knowledge with practical, real-world applications.
