COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art program at Auburn University at Montgomery in Montgomery offers a comprehensive range of courses designed to develop students’ knowledge of art history, visual arts techniques, design practices, and creative expression. These courses include Fundamentals of Music, Music Appreciation, Music in World Cultures, and Music Today. Students may participate in performance-based activities such as University Chorus, University Singers, and Band, which encourage collaborative artistic experiences and help develop musical understanding alongside visual arts studies.A significant portion of the curriculum focuses on studio and design courses that help students develop practical artistic skills and creative techniques. Foundational courses such as Introduction to Visual Arts, Two-Dimensional Design, Beginning Drawing, Intermediate Drawing, and 3-D Design introduce students to the principles of visual composition and artistic form. As students progress, they explore specialized areas including painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and digital design. Courses such as Watercolor, Beginning Painting, Beginning Sculpture, Digital Foundations, Typography, and Beginning Photography allow students to experiment with various media and technologies.Advanced studio courses enable students to refine their creative abilities and professional skills. These include Advanced Drawing, Intermediate and Advanced Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Advanced Photography, Interaction Design, Motion Graphics, and Advanced Graphic Design. Students may also engage in practical experiences through internships, individual studio projects, and senior capstone courses. Opportunities such as Art Internship, Senior Project, and Capstone help students apply their artistic knowledge in professional environments while developing a strong portfolio for future careers in the visual arts and creative industries.
