COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sociology major at Auburn University at Montgomery provides students with a thorough understanding of social institutions, human behavior, and societal forces that shape individual and collective identities. The program emphasizes both theoretical foundations and applied skills, preparing students for careers in public administration, public health, government, social services, business, law, education, human resources, medicine, and nonprofit organizations. Through coursework and experiential learning, students explore how social structures, culture, and institutions influence behavior and relationships in communities and society at large.Students pursuing a sociology degree can choose from three concentrations: General Sociology, Anthropology, or Marriage and Family. The curriculum ensures mastery of critical sociological concepts, research methods, and applied practices. Core courses provide grounding in social theory, research methodology, social problems, criminology, social movements, and the sociology of family, health, religion, and education. Advanced and experiential courses such as SOCI4924 Internship in Sociology, SOCI4950 Senior Capstone in Sociology, and special topics courses allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals.By completing the program with a grade of C or higher in all required courses, graduates develop analytical, research, and communication skills, as well as a nuanced understanding of social dynamics.
