COURSE CURRICULUM

The Speech and Language Therapy (Pre-Registration) MSc is structured over two years to provide a comprehensive combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional development required for a career as a Speech and Language Therapist. In Year 1, students begin with The Professional SLT Context and Evidence-Based Practice 1, which introduces the principles of evidence-based practice and professional standards. Modules such as Structures and Systems for Speech, Language, Hearing and Swallowing and Linguistics and Communication in Context provide foundational scientific and linguistic knowledge, while Speech, Language, Communication and Cognition Across the Lifespan explores developmental and cognitive aspects of communication. Introduction to Speech, Language, Communication and Swallowing Difficulties covers both developmental and acquired disorders. Clinical Practice 1 and 2 allow students to apply their learning in supervised placements, gaining hands-on experience with patients across diverse settings. Year 2 builds on this foundation with further professional practice modules, including The Professional SLT Context and Evidence-Based Practice 2 and 3, which focus on advanced practice, research application, and professional project work. Speech, Language, Communication and Swallowing Difficulties, and their Evaluation and Management develops advanced assessment and intervention skills. Clinical Practice 3 and 4 provide further applied experience, and Preparing for Qualified Practice ensures graduates are ready to register with professional bodies and practice safely and competently. This program equips students with the expertise, reflective skills, and confidence to deliver effective, evidence-based, and compassionate speech and language therapy across the lifespan.
