COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Therapy (Pre-Registration) MSc is structured over two years to provide a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional development. In Year 1, students begin with modules such as Occupational Beings and Theory and Foundations of Occupational Therapy, which introduce the core principles, frameworks, and concepts that underpin the profession. Advancing Professional Skills focuses on developing essential competencies in communication, clinical reasoning, and therapeutic practice. Students also undertake Practice Placement 1a and 1b, gaining hands-on experience in diverse clinical settings and learning to apply theory to real-world scenarios. Contexts of Professional Practice further explores the environments in which occupational therapy is delivered, including healthcare, social care, and educational settings. In Year 2, the program builds on this foundation with Contributing to Communities, which emphasizes collaborative and person-centred approaches to supporting clients. Practice Placement 2a and 2b provide extended opportunities to refine clinical skills and professional judgment under supervision. Evidence-based Practice, Service Evaluation and Research equips students with the ability to critically appraise research and implement evidence-informed interventions. Service Development and Leadership focuses on management, innovation, and advancing the profession. Together, these modules ensure graduates are confident, competent, and ready to practice as professional occupational therapists, capable of responding to complex care needs and contributing to service improvement.
