COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology of Child and Adolescent Development MSc is structured around modules that provide a thorough grounding in both developmental theory and research methodology. The Child Development module explores the social, emotional, cognitive, and neurobiological processes that shape early life, helping students understand how children grow, learn, and interact with their environment. Adolescent Development builds on this foundation, examining the unique psychological, social, and biological changes that occur during adolescence and how these influence behaviour, decision-making, and identity formation. Psychological Research Methods equips students with the skills to design, conduct, and analyse research studies, providing a strong foundation in statistical analysis, experimental design, and ethical research practice. The Research Paper module allows students to undertake an independent research project, applying theoretical knowledge and research skills to investigate a specific question within child or adolescent development. Together, these modules foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate complex developmental processes from multiple perspectives. Graduates emerge with a deep understanding of developmental psychology, practical experience in research, and the ability to apply evidence-based approaches in academic, clinical, or applied settings. The program prepares students for careers in research, education, healthcare, and policy, as well as further study in developmental psychology or related fields.
