The Publishing and English Literature MA is structured around modules that integrate creative, literary, and professional skills, preparing students for careers in the publishing industry while deepening their understanding of English literature. The Journey of the Book: The Publishing Process provides practical insight into how books move from manuscript to market, covering editing, production, distribution, and marketing. Influence and Intertext encourages students to explore the relationships between texts, examining literary influences, adaptation, and intertextuality to develop critical analytical skills. Readers, Markets and Literary Value examines the reception of literature, the cultural and commercial factors shaping literary value, and the ways audiences engage with texts, linking literary study to industry considerations. The Business of Publishing equips students with knowledge of the commercial and strategic aspects of the publishing sector, including market analysis, project management, and audience engagement. The Publishing Project allows students to produce a substantial work of practical publishing, applying their skills in a real-world context and developing a professional portfolio. The Dissertation provides an opportunity for independent research, enabling students to investigate a literary or publishing topic in depth, demonstrating critical thinking, research skills, and scholarly expertise.
