COURSE CURRICULUM

The Publishing and Creative Writing MA is structured around modules that combine creative development, critical analysis, and professional publishing knowledge to prepare students for careers in the literary and publishing industries. The Journey of the Book: The Publishing Process introduces students to the full lifecycle of a publication, from manuscript development and editing to production, distribution, and marketing, providing practical insight into the industry. Critical Approach to Creative Writing encourages students to engage with contemporary literature, develop analytical skills, and refine their own creative work through informed critique. The Business of Publishing focuses on the commercial and strategic aspects of the industry, including market analysis, audience engagement, and the management of creative projects. Writing in the World: Facilitation, Collaboration and Dissemination develops skills in collaborative and applied writing, exploring how work can be shared with and impact different communities. The Publishing Project and Project Portfolio modules provide opportunities for students to create, manage, and present substantial bodies of work, integrating both creative and professional development. Writing and the Environment encourages reflection on ecological and social contexts, exploring how writing can engage with global challenges. Together, these modules equip graduates with a combination of creative, analytical, and professional skills, preparing them to work as writers, editors, literary agents, or in other publishing roles, with a portfolio demonstrating both creative excellence and industry understanding.
