COURSE CURRICULUM

The History MA program offers a diverse range of modules that explore key historical themes, periods, and methodologies. It begins with modules like Historians and the Writing of History and Digital Humanities for Historians, which develop essential research and analytical skills, along with an understanding of how historians interpret and present the past. The course covers a wide chronological and thematic spectrum, from the microhistories of everyday life during the English Revolution to Britain’s wartime experiences between 1800 and 1815. Students can also examine issues of global security in Peril and Progress: Security in the Post-1945 World, or study the profound impact of World War One on European empires through Shatter Zones. Other modules explore identity and belief in Exile, Identity, and Religious Experience in Early Modern Europe, and the evolution of mental health care in Mindsets: Historical Perspectives on Mental Healthcare. The Setting Sun focuses on British decolonisation between 1945 and 1968, tracing the end of empire and its global consequences. The program concludes with History Today and an independent Research Dissertation, allowing students to apply their skills through in-depth research. Together, these modules provide a comprehensive and critical understanding of the complexities of historical study and interpretation.
