COURSE CURRICULUM

The English Literature MA provides an advanced framework for studying literature, combining close textual analysis with broader critical and cultural perspectives. Students engage with modules such as Literary Studies Now, which encourages contemporary approaches to literary theory and criticism, and Influence and Intertext, which explores how texts are shaped by, respond to, and reinterpret other works across time and cultures. World, Globe, Literature expands the study of literature beyond national boundaries, examining the global circulation of texts and the impact of cultural exchange on literary production. Readers, Markets and Literary Value investigates how literature is received, evaluated, and valued within various social, economic, and historical contexts, fostering an understanding of the interplay between texts, audiences, and literary markets. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, research, and communication skills, culminating in a dissertation that allows them to undertake an extended, independent research project on a topic of their choice. This combination of theoretical engagement, textual study, and practical research prepares graduates for careers in academia, publishing, writing, and other literary and cultural industries.
