COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law LLB (Hons) degree offers a comprehensive and practical study of law, equipping students with the knowledge and skills required for a successful legal career. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Contract Law and The Civil Justice System, The Law and The State, and Criminal Law and The Criminal Justice System, developing an understanding of fundamental legal principles, the structure of the legal system, and the role of law in society. The second year expands this knowledge with Tort Law, Property Law, Law in a Global Context, Law in Society, and Law in our Community, providing insight into how law operates in diverse contexts and preparing students to analyse complex legal issues critically. The final year focuses on advanced legal study and professional preparation, including modules such as Equity and Trusts, Clinical Legal Practice, Legal Placement, Dissertation, Medical Law, Law of Evidence, Commercial Law and Practice, Family Law and Practice, Mental Health Law and Practice, Business Law, Conveyancing, Wills and Administration of Estates, Crime and Society, Employment Law, Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence, Intellectual Property, Asylum and Immigration Law, and Civil Dispute Resolution. Through a combination of theoretical study, practical workshops, placements, and the York St John Law Clinic, students develop strong analytical, research, communication, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for professional legal training, careers in law, or related fields.
