COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology with Counselling degree provides a comprehensive understanding of psychology alongside practical training in counselling theories and techniques. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Biological Bases of Behaviour, Cognition and Development, and Differential Psychology. They also develop essential research skills and gain insights into real-world applications through Psychology at Work and professional development activities. The second year focuses on advancing theoretical understanding and research abilities with modules in Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Brain and Behaviour, and Psychological Research. Students also explore how psychology applies to mental health settings, preparing them for future therapeutic practice. In the final year, the course emphasizes counselling psychology and applied therapeutic techniques. Modules such as Foundations of Counselling Psychology, Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Contemporary Counselling Psychology develop both theoretical understanding and practical counselling skills. Alongside this, students complete an independent research paper and engage in professional development to prepare for future careers. This structure equips graduates with a strong grounding in psychological science, practical counselling experience, and the research expertise needed for roles in mental health, counselling, and wellbeing services or further postgraduate training in counselling or clinical psychology.
