COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physical Education and Sports Coaching BSc (Hons) degree offers a comprehensive pathway for students to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in sport, exercise, and coaching. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of the discipline, including Anatomy and Physiology for Sport and Exercise, Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Psychology, Introduction to PE and Sports Coaching, Kinesiology and the Biomechanical Principles of Human Movement, Introduction to Research Methods in Sport, and Sport and Social Issues. These modules provide essential understanding of human movement, psychological principles, and the social context of sport, preparing students for further study. In the second year, learning becomes more applied and specialised, with modules such as Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in PE and Sports Coaching, Theory and Research in Sport and Exercise Psychology, Pedagogy and Skill Acquisition in PE and Youth Sport, Applied Experience in PE and Sports Coaching, Sport, Education and Society, and Research, Design and Analysis in Sport and Exercise. These experiences enable students to develop effective coaching strategies, inclusive practice, and research skills. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics and professional preparation through Contemporary Issues in PE and Sports Coaching, Placement in PE and Sports Coaching, In-depth Experience in PE and Sports Coaching, Duty of Care in PE and Sports Coaching, and a Research Paper, ensuring graduates are equipped with the expertise and confidence to pursue careers as educators, coaches, or sports development professionals.
