COURSE CURRICULUM

The Paramedic Science BSc (Hons) degree is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional attributes required to become competent and confident paramedics. In the first year, students build a foundation in essential clinical and professional practice through modules such as Professional Practice 1, Anatomy and Physiology, Fundamental Skills and Simulation, Pharmacology Paramedic Practice, Introduction to Evidence Informed Practice, and Introduction to Practice. These modules focus on developing core clinical skills, understanding the human body, and learning to apply evidence-based approaches in patient care. The second year expands on this foundation with modules including Professional Practice 2, Applied Pathophysiology, Caring for the Critically Ill Patient, Emergency Mental Health, Developing Evidence Informed Practice, and Developing Practice, enabling students to manage a wider range of medical emergencies, critically ill patients, and mental health challenges, while enhancing their decision-making and practical competence. In the third year, students consolidate their learning through applied modules such as Applied Research, Minor Illness, Minor Injury, Managing Complex Health Needs, and Developing Autonomous Practice, which focus on advanced clinical reasoning, autonomous decision-making, and managing complex and unpredictable patient situations. Graduates emerge as skilled, reflective, and adaptable paramedics, ready to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care in high-pressure and emergency healthcare settings.
