COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Therapy BSc (Hons) degree is designed to prepare students for professional practice, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to support individuals in engaging with meaningful everyday activities. In the first year, students build a foundation in occupational therapy through modules such as People as Occupational Beings, Developing Professional Practice, Theories Underpinning Occupation Centred Practice, Enhancing Professional Skills, and Professional Practice Placements 1 and 1b. These modules focus on understanding the role of occupation in human life, developing core professional skills, and gaining initial practical experience. The second year advances clinical and professional learning with modules including Applying the Occupational Therapy Process, Developing Occupational Justice in Contexts, Developing Professional Attributes, Being an Autonomous Occupational Therapist in Contemporary Settings, and Professional Practice Placement 2. This stage emphasizes applying theory to practice, understanding social and ethical dimensions of care, and enhancing autonomy in clinical decision-making. In the third year, students consolidate their learning through advanced modules such as Service Development and Leadership, Contributing to Occupational Therapy Evidence, Employability and Transition into Practice, and Professional Practice Placement 3. These experiences prepare students for leadership, research-informed practice, and smooth transition into the workforce. Graduates emerge as skilled, reflective, and confident occupational therapists, ready to support clients’ health, wellbeing, and independence across diverse contexts.
