COURSE CURRICULUM

The Korean, TESOL and Linguistics BA (Hons) degree provides a comprehensive study of English language teaching, linguistics, and Korean language and culture, preparing students for international careers in education and communication. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Introduction to Linguistics and Multilingualism, Key Concepts for TESOL, Descriptive Grammar of English, The Sounds of Language, and Korean Language Foundation or in Practice, building essential skills in language analysis, teaching principles, and Korean language proficiency. The second year expands on these skills with modules including Korean Language and Society, Second Language Acquisition and TESOL, Phonetics and Phonology, World Englishes, Language, Gender and Sexuality, Analysing Media Discourse, Intercultural Communication in TESOL, Forensic Linguistics, Children’s Literacy Development, and Psycholinguistics, combining theoretical insight with practical application in multilingual and multicultural contexts. In the third year, students consolidate their learning through a Reflective Report, integrating experience, theory, and practice. The fourth year focuses on advanced skills and professional preparation through modules such as Korean Language Projects, Lessons and Materials Design for TESOL, Attitudes to Language, Child Language Acquisition, English Accents and Dialects, Communication Disorder and Difference, and a Dissertation. Graduates gain strong linguistic, pedagogical, and intercultural skills, preparing them to teach English in Korea or globally and pursue careers in education, translation, and international communication.
