COURSE CURRICULUM

The Korean, Intercultural Communication and Linguistics BA (Hons) degree offers a comprehensive study of language, culture, and communication, with a focus on developing Korean language proficiency and intercultural understanding. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through modules such as Introduction to Linguistics and Multilingualism, Language and Society, Descriptive Grammar of English, The Sounds of Language, and Korean Language Foundation or in Practice, developing essential linguistic knowledge, practical language skills, and an understanding of social and cultural influences on communication. The second year expands this foundation with modules including Korean Language and Society, Signed Language in a Social Context, Phonetics and Phonology, World Englishes, Language, Gender and Sexuality, Analysing Media Discourse, Intercultural Communication, Languages and Social Theory, Forensic Linguistics, Children’s Literacy Development, and Psycholinguistics, enabling students to explore linguistic structures, sociocultural practices, and cross-cultural communication in depth. In the third year, students consolidate their learning through a Reflective Report, integrating theory and practice. The fourth year focuses on advanced study and independent research with modules such as Korean Language Projects, Language, Identities and Cultures, Attitudes to Language, Child Language Acquisition, English Accents and Dialects, Communication Disorder and Difference, and a Dissertation. Graduates are equipped with linguistic expertise, intercultural communication skills, and cultural insight, preparing them for careers in Korea or global professions requiring language proficiency and cross-cultural competence.
