COURSE CURRICULUM

The Religion, Philosophy and Ethics BA (Hons) degree offers an in-depth exploration of religious thought, philosophical inquiry, and ethical reasoning. In the first year, students develop a foundational understanding of key concepts through modules such as Foundations of Christian Theology, Religion, Peace and Conflict, Philosophy and Religion, and World Christianity, which introduce global perspectives on faith and belief systems. The second year encourages deeper critical engagement with topics like Matters of Life and Death, Problems of Evil, and Theology and the Environment, examining how philosophy and theology address moral challenges, human suffering, and the relationship between religion and society. Modules such as Religion and Politics and Religion and Literature broaden understanding of how belief influences culture and governance. In the final year, students apply their learning to complex global and ethical issues through modules like Religion and Genocides, Feminist Ethics and Religion, and Religion and Globalisation. The Dissertation and Negotiated Study modules allow students to specialise in their areas of interest, demonstrating independence and academic rigour. This course cultivates skills in analysis, ethical reflection, and critical thinking, preparing graduates for careers in education, community engagement, social research, or any field requiring an understanding of human values and moral reasoning.
