COURSE CURRICULUM

The Religion and Theology BA (Hons) degree offers a comprehensive exploration of faith, belief systems, and their influence on society, culture, and ethics. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Studying Religion, Philosophy and Religion, and Foundations of Christian Theology, while exploring global perspectives in Religion, Peace and Conflict and World Christianity. The second year deepens critical and philosophical understanding with modules like From Descartes to the Death of God, Problems of Evil, and Theology and the Environment. Students also examine the intersections between religion and politics, literature, and society, gaining insight into real-world applications through Work Related Learning. In the final year, the focus shifts to contemporary and ethical debates through modules such as Religion and Genocides, Theology and Ethics through Film, and Feminist Ethics and Religion. Students also explore the roles of spirituality, visual culture, and globalisation in shaping modern religious thought. The degree culminates in a Dissertation, allowing students to conduct independent research on a chosen topic. Combining philosophical reflection, theological study, and social analysis, this course prepares graduates to think critically about religion’s enduring significance in addressing global challenges and shaping human understanding.
