COURSE CURRICULUM

The Product Design BA (Hons) degree provides students with the opportunity to develop both their creative and practical design skills through a structured three-year program. In the first year, students are introduced to the context of practice, gaining an understanding of the principles that underpin product design while learning the fundamentals of the design process. This foundation is supported by practical workshops in Product Design Practice 1, where students begin to translate ideas into tangible outcomes. The second year focuses on expanding critical thinking and professional skills, combining Critical and Contextual Studies with Personal and Professional Practice to enhance students’ understanding of design theory, history, and contemporary practice. Collaborative Practice and Product Design Practice 2 allow students to work in teams, simulate real-world design challenges, and refine their practical skills, preparing them for professional environments. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through advanced critical studies and personal and professional development, culminating in the Product Design: Major Project. This project encourages students to demonstrate their creativity, technical proficiency, and design thinking, producing a portfolio-ready body of work. By the end of the course, graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to pursue careers in product design, innovation, and related creative industries, ready to bring inventive solutions to real-world challenges.
