COURSE CURRICULUM

The Primary Education (5 to 11) BA (Hons) program provides a comprehensive pathway for students aiming to become qualified teachers specializing in educating children aged five to eleven. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through modules on professional studies, the primary core and wider curriculum, and professional and academic skills, alongside practical experience during their initial school placement. This early engagement allows students to observe teaching practices, apply basic pedagogical skills, and develop an understanding of classroom dynamics. The second year deepens this knowledge with continued focus on professional studies and curriculum development, preparing students to deliver effective and inclusive lessons. Students also undertake a second school placement, gaining practical experience in planning, teaching, and reflecting on their practice. Additionally, research-informed learning equips students with the skills to critically evaluate educational theory and apply it in practice. In the final year, the course emphasizes professional growth and readiness for the teaching profession, with modules addressing contemporary educational issues and advanced professional studies. The third school placement enables students to demonstrate competence, leadership, and adaptability in real classroom settings. With the inclusion of a professional focus elective, students can tailor their learning to specific interests, leaving the program equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to inspire and support the learning of children aged five to eleven.
