COURSE CURRICULUM

The Primary Education (3 to 7) BA (Hons) program provides a comprehensive pathway for aspiring teachers to achieve Qualified Teacher Status while specializing in the education of young children. In the first year, students begin their journey with foundational modules in professional studies, core and wider primary curricula, and school experience, alongside developing essential academic and professional skills for teaching. This combination ensures students build a strong understanding of the primary classroom environment and the fundamentals of early childhood education. The second year deepens knowledge and practical expertise through modules focused on becoming an effective teacher, core curriculum development, and the Early Years Foundation Stage, with continued school placements to apply learning in real-world settings. Research-informed professional practice is introduced, encouraging students to critically engage with educational theory and evidence-based approaches. In the final year, students consolidate their skills and knowledge through advanced professional studies, exploration of contemporary educational issues, and extended school experience, ensuring they are fully prepared to manage the complexities of teaching young learners. Optional professional focus electives allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests, while research-informed practice continues to develop. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped with the practical expertise, theoretical understanding, and professional confidence required to inspire and educate children aged three to seven effectively.
