COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics BA (Hons) program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of political systems, ideas, and global issues, preparing them for careers that demand analytical and critical thinking. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in politics and international relations, exploring key concepts such as world politics, international security, British political history, sustainable development, and political philosophy. This grounding helps them understand both domestic and global political dynamics. The second year focuses on developing practical and analytical skills, examining political ideologies, party politics including the Conservative Party, democratic systems, election processes, international political economy, and methods for political analysis. Students also gain hands-on experience with practical politics, learning how theory translates into real-world political practice. The final year emphasizes independent research and advanced study through a dissertation, while students engage with critical topics such as authoritarianism, global governance, global justice, and the interplay of media, culture, and ideology in shaping political debates. They also analyze governance and power in the British state and examine political developments in contemporary Britain, including the Labour Party and periods of crisis. By combining theoretical knowledge, research skills, and practical understanding, the course equips students to navigate and influence political, governmental, and international environments effectively.
