COURSE CURRICULUM

The Musical Theatre BA (Hons) degree offers a comprehensive education in the performance and creation of musical theatre, focusing on singing, acting, and dancing while fostering creativity, collaboration, and professional development. In the first year, students build foundational skills through modules such as Acting, Voice for Musical Theatre, Cabaret, Perspectives on Musical Theatre 1, and Dance for Musical Theatre, developing technical proficiency and a broad understanding of the art form. The second year emphasizes practical application and advanced performance techniques, with modules including Professional Production, Scenes Through Songs, Physical Theatre, Perspectives on Musical Theatre 2, Making Musical Theatre, Acting for the Screen, Auto/biography and Performance, Children and Young People, and Politics and the Play. These modules allow students to refine their skills, experiment with different performance styles, and gain experience in both ensemble and individual work, while deepening their knowledge of the theoretical and historical contexts of musical theatre. In the final year, students participate in Company 1 and 2 and Repertoire 1 and 2 modules, gaining extensive stage experience and preparing for professional performance. Alongside this, the dissertation module encourages research, reflection, and critical analysis. Graduates leave with a well-rounded skill set, professional experience, and the creative confidence to pursue careers in performance, musical direction, choreography, or other roles within the performing arts.
