COURSE CURRICULUM

The Journalism BA (Hons) degree provides students with a thorough grounding in the principles, practice, and evolving nature of journalism, combining practical experience with academic study. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as Writing News and Features, Journalism: Sound and Vision, Researching Media Industries, Media Contexts and Debates, Writing for Digital News Media, and Media Law, gaining essential knowledge in reporting, writing, digital media, and the legal and ethical framework of the industry. The second year builds on this foundation with hands-on experience in broadcast and print journalism, including Radio Newsdays, TV Newsdays, Magazine Production, PR and Communications, and Journalism and Society, providing students with opportunities to produce content, engage with audiences, and understand the wider social and cultural role of journalism. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a Journalism Work Placement, Multimedia Newsroom Practice, a Research Project, and a Final Project, allowing them to apply practical skills in real-world contexts, develop editorial and multimedia expertise, and complete substantial investigative or creative projects. The program equips graduates with strong reporting, production, communication, and analytical skills, preparing them for careers in broadcast, digital, and print journalism, as well as roles in content creation, public relations, media production, and communications, ready to adapt to the fast-changing media landscape.
