COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Design BA (Hons) degree provides a structured and comprehensive pathway for developing both creative and technical skills essential for the gaming industry. In the first year, students build a foundation through modules such as Context of Practice, Game Design Principles, Design Process, and Game Design Practice 1, which introduce core concepts, creative thinking, and practical skills needed to design and develop games. The second year focuses on expanding knowledge and applying skills in more complex contexts, with modules including Critical and Contextual Studies 1, Personal and Professional Practice 1, Collaborative Practice, and Game Design Practice 2, allowing students to work both independently and collaboratively, experiment with ideas, and engage with theoretical and practical aspects of game design. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through advanced modules, including Critical and Contextual Studies 2, Personal and Professional Practice 2, and a major Games Design Project, which offers an opportunity to develop and showcase a substantial portfolio piece, demonstrating creativity, technical expertise, and problem-solving abilities. The program equips graduates with a deep understanding of game mechanics, interactive storytelling, user experience, and industry-standard tools, preparing them for careers as game designers, developers, level designers, narrative designers, or independent creators, with the skills and confidence to succeed in a competitive and rapidly evolving field.
