COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fine Art BA (Hons) degree offers a comprehensive exploration of creative practice, critical thinking, and professional development within the visual arts. In the first year, students establish a foundation through modules such as Form and Ground, Context: Making Art and Artists, Time and Space, and Presenting Representation, which encourage experimentation with materials, techniques, and conceptual approaches while introducing students to the histories and theories that inform contemporary art. The second year expands on these skills, with modules including Stuff and Things, Making, Sensing, Thinking, Something and Nothing, and Art: Ethics and Aesthetics, alongside Professional Networks, which develop students’ understanding of artistic practice, ethical considerations, and engagement with wider professional and cultural contexts. Opportunities for exchange and collaboration further enhance learning and broaden perspectives. In the final year, students focus on advanced studio practice, undertake a dissertation, and prepare for the degree show, while the Professional Futures module equips them with the skills necessary for careers in the arts. The program emphasizes experimentation, personal expression, and critical reflection, enabling students to develop a unique artistic voice. Graduates are prepared for a range of creative careers, including fine art practice, curation, arts management, education, and other roles within the creative industries, while fostering innovation and lifelong engagement with artistic practice.
