COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Education, SEN and Mental Health degree is structured to provide students with a thorough understanding of learning, development, and inclusive educational practices over three years of study. In the first year, students establish foundational knowledge through modules such as Academic and Professional Literacies 1 and 2, Child Development, Protection and Safeguarding in Context, Effective Communication and Teamwork, and Special Educational Needs and Inclusion. These modules introduce essential skills in academic study, professional practice, child development, and inclusive education. The second year builds on this foundation with a focus on mental health, neurodiversity, and social inclusion through modules including Neurodiversity and Learning, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Learning in Practice, Learning as a Researcher, Social Divisions, Inequities and Inclusion, and Questioning the Purpose: Philosophies of Childhood, Family and Education. Students develop practical experience alongside research and critical thinking skills to understand diverse educational needs. In the third year, students consolidate and apply their learning through advanced modules such as Contemporary Issues: Local, National, Global, Inclusive Practice: Local, National, Global, Critical Debates in SEN and Disability, Trauma-Informed Practice, Inclusive Physical Practices, and the Dissertation. The program equips graduates with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional awareness needed to support learners, promote inclusive education, and contribute positively to children and young people’s wellbeing and development.
