COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Creative Writing and Media degree is designed to develop both creative and analytical skills across three years of study. In the first year, students build a foundation in media, culture, and writing through modules such as Media, Culture and Society, Forms of Narrative, Writing to Order, Introduction to Creative Writing, Critical Perspectives, and Mediated Identities. These modules introduce key concepts in media studies and creative writing, fostering analytical thinking and narrative skills. The second year expands students’ understanding of media and writing across diverse contexts, including Writing Fiction, Writing Reality: Creative Nonfiction, Writing Poetry, Scriptwriting, Convergence Cultures, Music and Media, Visual Culture, Media Enterprise, Adaptations, and Imaginary Worlds: Researching Science Fiction. Students also explore global and contemporary issues in media through modules such as Globalisation, Media and Sustainability, Life Online, and Taste, Controversy and Culture, while gaining practical experience in publishing and performance. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through the Dissertation Project and advanced creative modules including Writing Genres, Contemporary Writing 1 and 2, Animations, Pop Americana: Contemporary Popular Culture, Media Spaces, Gender and Sexualities: Issues and Debates, and Futures. The program equips graduates with strong creative, critical, and research skills, preparing them for careers in writing, publishing, media production, and related creative industries, or for further postgraduate study.
