In the first year, students build essential academic and professional foundations through modules such as Academic and Professional Literacies, Child Development, Protection and Safeguarding in Context, Effective Communication and Teamwork, and Special Educational Needs and Inclusion. These modules introduce key concepts in child welfare, education, and inclusive practice. The second year deepens this understanding with modules focused on wellbeing, family support, and social inclusion, including Mental Health and Wellbeing, Social Divisions, Inequities and Inclusion, and Supporting Families. Students also develop research and practical experience through Learning as a Researcher and Learning in Practice, while exploring broader educational philosophies. In the final year, the focus shifts to applying knowledge to complex real-world issues through modules such as State Intervention: The Individual and Society, Contemporary Issues: Local, National, Global, and Inclusive Practice: Local, National, Global. Modules like Trauma-Informed Practice and Transforming Communities prepare students to work effectively in challenging environments. The Dissertation allows for independent research on a chosen topic. Overall, the degree equips graduates with the skills and insight needed for professional roles supporting children, young people, and families.
