COURSE CURRICULUM

The Professional Writing MA combines practical and theoretical approaches to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in diverse writing careers. Core modules such as The Story and the Book, The Writing Business, and Working with the Words of Others provide a strong foundation in both creative and professional aspects of writing, while the MA Dissertation or Professional Writing Project allows students to pursue an in-depth, independent project tailored to their interests and career goals. The program emphasizes understanding the full scope of writing, from crafting compelling narratives to navigating the business and professional contexts in which writing operates. Optional modules further broaden students’ expertise, offering opportunities to explore English Worldwide, Digital Magazine Publishing, Multi-Media Journalism Skills, Podcast Production, and other contemporary forms of communication. Students may also engage with modules like Mapping and Imagining the City: Non-Fiction and Poetic Writing, Persuasion, Propaganda and Influence, and The Small Press and Professional Writing, encouraging interdisciplinary thinking and creative experimentation.
