COURSE CURRICULUM

The Global Development MA is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of development issues, policies, and practices in a rapidly changing world. The core modules form the foundation of the program, offering a critical engagement with themes such as development policy and practice, the global political economy of development, and governance for sustainable futures. Students also examine pressing issues like energy and climate change, and explore conceptual debates around just development futures, while developing advanced research skills through the dissertation and research methods module. This strong grounding equips them with the analytical and practical tools to address global challenges. The program also offers a wide range of option modules, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests. These cover areas such as migration and development, gender and international relations, regional energy security, the governance of the European Union, and the role of the EU as an international actor. Students can also delve into controversies in U.S. foreign policy, global change beyond Western frameworks, and critical issues of security, violence, and intervention. Together, these modules prepare graduates to critically analyze global development and apply their knowledge in policy-making, research, or roles within international organizations and NGOs.
