COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diplomacy and Global Politics MA combines theoretical study with practical training to prepare students for careers in international relations, negotiation, and diplomacy. Core modules provide a solid foundation in diplomacy and foreign policy, examining both the theory and practice of global political engagement. Students explore how crises are managed and how complex global challenges such as security threats, climate change, and international conflict are addressed through diplomatic action. Practical skills are developed through modules in diplomatic training and negotiation, equipping students to operate effectively in professional international environments. The dissertation and research methods module enables students to apply rigorous research techniques to analyse contemporary issues, while option modules allow for in-depth exploration of specialised topics such as international security, global governance, energy and climate change, intercultural communication, postcolonial relations, and the foreign policies of key global actors. The program encourages students to critically evaluate the roles of diverse stakeholders at global, national, and local levels and to understand the evolving dynamics of international power and agency. By blending academic rigour with real-world application, the course prepares graduates to engage strategically and effectively as diplomatic professionals, contributing to negotiated solutions, conflict resolution, and the shaping of global events.
