COURSE CURRICULUM

The Creative Writing: Writing the City MA is structured around a series of core modules designed to develop both creative skill and professional practice. In City Stories and Dramas: Fiction and Playwriting, students explore narrative techniques, character development, and dramatic structure, learning to craft compelling fiction and stage-worthy scripts set within the urban landscape. Mapping and Imagining the City: Non-Fiction and Poetic Writing focuses on non-fiction, poetry, and hybrid forms, encouraging students to engage with the city as a source of inspiration and cultural exploration, while experimenting with language, form, and perspective. The Writing Business module provides practical knowledge of the creative industries, including publishing, agent relationships, self-promotion, and building a sustainable career as a writer. Finally, The Writing Project allows students to consolidate their learning into an extended, independent piece of work in their chosen genre, supported by mentorship and peer feedback. Collectively, these modules ensure that graduates leave the program with both a polished portfolio of original work and the professional skills needed to navigate the literary world.
